Thailand · Islands, northern countryside and programme styles

Choosing a yoga retreat in Thailand starts with two decisions: how you want to practise, and how much travelling you want around it. A flexible island holiday with a daily timetable feels quite different from a fixed group retreat in the northern countryside or a resort programme built around private instruction.

Provider information: Review My Retreat offers paid marketing services to retreat providers and passes guest enquiries to them. Guests arrange their retreat directly with the organiser.

These fifteen venues cover those different approaches. Use the comparison to narrow your region, then read the individual programme details: a three-day course may exclude the bed, a weekly fee may omit dinner, and a sea-view room may involve several flights of steps. Those differences matter more than an attractive headline package.

Choose your setting and the rhythm of your stay

Koh Samui is the straightforward Gulf option when you want an airport on the same island as the retreat. Samahita, Vikasa, Absolute Sanctuary and Kamalaya all offer residential stays, but their teaching and accommodation models differ considerably. Koh Phangan adds a ferry connection, followed by a road transfer or, for The Sanctuary, a more involved final journey to a remote bay.

Phuket gives you road access from its airport to CC’s Hideaway, Mangosteen and Amatara. Island Yoga on Koh Yao Noi needs a boat connection as well. In northern Thailand, Suan Sati and True Nature sit outside Chiang Mai, while Museflower is in Chiang Rai province. Choose the north for its countryside setting and residential rhythm; choose an island when time by the sea is part of the holiday you want.

The categories below describe the accommodation and programme model. Budget means simpler shared rooms or tent options and communal facilities; mid-range covers dedicated residential centres and comfortable private-room choices; luxury indicates a resort stay with substantial private accommodation, spa facilities or individual sessions. A shared and a private booking at the same centre can sit in different categories. These labels are comparisons, rather than quoted prices.

Northern Thailand: Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai

Suan Sati

A fixed group and communal schedule. Budget; private upgrades available · 6 days / 5 nights for winter group retreat

Suan Sati’s winter retreat gives the group a shared six-day, five-night experience. Morning Hatha or Vinyasa practice is balanced by gentler afternoon sessions, meditation and workshops. Accommodation, three plant-based meals daily and return transport from the designated Chiang Mai Old City meeting point are included. The published morning pickup means arriving in the city the previous night is part of sensible planning.

This is communal residential practice rather than a base for working online between classes. The retreat has a digital-detox policy, with urgent access arranged through staff. Fan dormitories have nearby shared bathrooms; shared round-house bungalows offer air conditioning and attached bathrooms, with private rooms also available. Follow the centre’s own arrival directions, because it warns that navigation can select the wrong road. Confirm a specific winter departure before booking transport. Its May–September guesthouse stay is a separate, more flexible format, and should not be mistaken for the same five-night group course. The budget category refers to the simpler accommodation and bundled communal stay.

True Nature Chiang Mai

Flexible countryside practice. Budget; private AC options available · 3 nights minimum, within retreat season

True Nature offers a different northern rhythm: flexible arrival and a three-night minimum within its retreat season. The current advertised season runs from 8 October 2026 to 1 March 2027. An active morning practice is paired with slower Yin, restorative or mobility work in the afternoon, alongside breathing and meditation. The residential booking includes three vegetarian meals, filtered water and yoga equipment; treatments and excursions are additional choices.

Accommodation is deliberately simple, from hand-built private or shared rooms to canvas tents. Cooling and bathrooms differ by category, so choose the room details rather than a generic private-or-shared label. Tents use shared bathrooms, some houses have air conditioning, and raised tent platforms or a loft can affect access. The provider estimates 45–50 minutes by car from Chiang Mai city and supplies Thai directions for the driver. Its requested afternoon arrival window also leaves time to join practice. This is a useful budget choice for a rural residential stay without a fixed group departure; teacher training is a separate programme.

Museflower Retreat & Spa

Hatha yoga with full board and local transfers. Mid-range · 3, 5 or 7 nights; 3-night minimum

Museflower combines a countryside cottage stay with a defined yoga programme. Its three-, five- and seven-night packages include two daily Hatha classes, with meditation and spa sessions allocated by the chosen programme. The minimum for a customised retreat is also three nights. Book the dedicated yoga package if that is the intended routine: an ordinary room rate includes fewer activities and is not equivalent.

Three lacto-ovo vegetarian meals per room night are included, with vegan or gluten-free requests arranged in advance. Rooms offer air conditioning, fans and private hot showers, with single, double or triple occupancy depending on category. The lake setting, pool, bicycles and spa wet facilities provide options between sessions. Return pickup from Chiang Rai airport or the bus terminal is included; follow the meeting instructions, particularly for Bus Station 1. It is a mid-range countryside stay with useful practical inclusions, although sightseeing transport and meals taken off site cost extra. Ask about the chosen room’s bed platform and access route before booking if mobility matters.

Gulf islands: yoga retreats on Koh Samui and Koh Phangan

Samahita Retreat

Residential practice with optional fitness. Mid-range · 3-day programme minimum; confirm booked nights

Samahita suits travellers who want yoga to organise the day without following every session. Its year-round Yoga & Fitness stay combines dynamic and restorative practice with breathwork, meditation and optional core or cycling sessions. Accommodation and buffet meals are bundled into the residential rate. The stated minimum is three days, so check the arrival and departure nights in your quotation; teacher-led retreats have their own dates.

The room range is unusually relevant to the decision: beachfront private rooms sit alongside garden private, semi-private and shared-loft choices. Air conditioning and fans are listed, but ask precisely which bathroom your room uses. There are pools, fitness facilities and steam/cold-plunge options. The provider estimates around 45 minutes from Samui airport. Its Laem Sor beachfront setting is a reason to stay south, although seasonal low water means sea swimming cannot be assumed. It is a practical mid-range choice when varied movement and a residential community appeal more than a private spa itinerary.

Vikasa

Flexible yoga holiday. Mid-range · 3 nights minimum

Vikasa’s Vikation is its flexible Koh Samui holiday, separate from signature retreats and yoga teacher training. The minimum is three nights, with accommodation, unlimited group yoga and meditation, equipment, brunch and dinner included. That two-meal pattern leaves a different day from a three-meal retreat: allow for any extra café orders, as well as private teaching, spa treatments or excursions you decide to add.

Choose the room before comparing totals. Single Yoga Caves use shared bathrooms, whereas named Cabana and Lotus categories offer private en-suite options. The property has a pool and common areas, but the route between bedroom and practice matters too: Vikasa specifically discusses stairs in its room guidance. Ask for the actual number and steepness of steps rather than relying on a broad accessibility description. Airport pickup can be arranged. This is a useful choice for people who want regular classes with freedom over the timetable, provided the chosen room and hillside circulation suit them.

Absolute Sanctuary

Yoga with a scheduled spa programme. Luxury · 5, 7 or 10 nights

Absolute Sanctuary’s Yoga Immersion combines a private hotel room with group practice, a specified number of private yoga sessions and a treatment schedule. Five-, seven- and ten-night versions include three meals, two juices or smoothies daily, return airport transfers and access to the pool, steam room and fitness facilities. The appeal is a clearly organised residential package with individual attention alongside the group timetable.

Look beyond the programme name when reading the inclusions. The published package contains treatments, including colon hydrotherapy, that are separate choices from yoga practice; ask what can be omitted or substituted if those are not wanted. Room selection also changes the stay. Deluxe rooms list a bathtub, Deluxe Seaview rooms are upstairs, and Suites have a bathtub and shower. Confirm floor, bathroom and route to the teaching spaces if steps are a concern. The luxury category reflects the private accommodation, transfers and scheduled services, rather than a claim about a particular room rate or a promised health result.

Kamalaya Koh Samui

Individually scheduled yoga. Luxury · 3, 5, 8 or 15-night programmes

Kamalaya’s Personal Yoga Synergy is the most individual programme model in this group. Depending on the three-, five-, eight- or fifteen-night option, it combines private ninety-minute yoga sessions with a defined wellness schedule. It is worth considering when personal instruction is central to the trip and you do not want to rely entirely on group classes.

Budget for two components: the programme excludes accommodation. Its inclusions list lunch, dinner and Samui airport transfers; current room information places breakfast within the room rate. Hillside rooms, suites and villas give substantial choice, but are not interchangeable. Basic Hillside rooms lack outdoor space, while the Sea View Suite lists a private-balcony bathtub. Pools, fitness facilities and scheduled group activities are part of the wider resort experience. First-time visitors must book a wellness programme, and Christmas/New Year bookings have a longer minimum stay. Ask for the combined room-and-programme total and the precise room location within the hillside-to-beach property before committing.

The Sanctuary Thailand

Remote bay with flexible programme starts. Mid-range; simpler rooms available · 3, 5, 7 or 10 programme days; room extra

The Sanctuary’s Haad Tien Bay location shapes this stay as much as the classes do. Current yoga packages run for three, five, seven or ten programme days, with flexible starts. The package grid combines group classes, a private session, brunch, massage and steam/cave-plunge access; the exact treatment allowance changes with length. Accommodation is additional unless specifically selected, so a programme price alone does not describe the cost of sleeping here.

Huts, dorms, air-conditioned bungalows and houses serve different budgets. Obtain the exact bathroom and cooling details for your room, and clarify the meal schedule: the provider uses both brunch and lunch wording. Arrival needs more planning than a normal hotel transfer. The official directions describe a taxi boat from Haad Rin or a rough jungle-track truck journey, with a possible beach walk. First-time arrivals after dark are advised to stop overnight en route. Choose it for the remote-bay setting only if that final journey and its weather dependence work for you.

Wonderland Healing Center

Full-board group timetable inland. Budget to mid-range · 4 nights minimum

Wonderland offers a residential way to try several forms of yoga, meditation and group activity without booking a separate workshop for each. The yoga retreat has a four-night minimum and includes accommodation, three vegan buffet meals daily, classes, a swimming pool and herbal steam sauna. It is inland, rather than beachfront, and the venue states that there is no gym; the programme and communal spaces are the main focus.

Room category makes a material difference. Private rooms list a king bed or two double beds, an en-suite bathroom, kitchen facilities and a terrace. The dormitories are mixed-gender and use shared bathrooms. Detailed yoga-package terms include return ferry-port transfers and two Thai massages per seven nights for private-room guests, so dorm guests should check their own arrangements. Also request the current timetable if one particular class is the reason for booking, because a broad activity menu does not mean every class runs every day. The shared-room option supports a budget category, with private rooms moving the stay towards mid-range.

Orion Healing Centre

Yoga and meals beside Srithanu Bay. Mid-range; fan huts available · Confirm residential minimum

For a food-inclusive stay at Orion, look at Yoga and Healthy Living. The centre distinguishes this programme from its fasting and detox packages. It lists unlimited yoga, weekday meditation, selected workshops and up to three vegan meals daily, together with pool, steam-room, infrared-sauna and ice-bath access; special ice-bath events are excluded. Weekly treatment allowances need translating into the actual length you book.

Accommodation ranges from fan-cooled bamboo huts with a bathroom to air-conditioned en-suite room categories. That makes comfort, cooling and total cost room-specific. The readable programme information does not establish a residential minimum, so confirm the Yoga and Stay booking rather than mistaking the separate one-day experience for an overnight package. The centre is at Srithanu Bay: reach Koh Phangan by ferry, then continue by road, arranging pier collection ahead of time if needed. It suits someone who wants group practice and facilities without making a fasting programme part of their yoga holiday.

One Yoga

Structured personal practice and philosophy. Budget to mid-range · One or more weeks

One Yoga’s Sadhana retreat is for a sustained practice routine, separate from its certification courses. Book one or more weeks, with teaching Monday to Saturday and Sunday free. The sample timetable includes two yoga sessions, philosophy, Yoga Nidra or a sound journey, and evening silent meditation. The distinction is useful: it offers more structure and study than simply buying access to occasional holiday classes.

The course fee includes vegetarian breakfast and lunch on teaching days, with vegan choices. Accommodation is selected separately, and dinner and free-day meals need their own allowance. Shared guest-house rooms use shared bathrooms; private bungalows, studios and en-suite pool suites provide alternatives. The seaside campus includes shalas, a meditation hall and a private beach. Its Sky Shala is at the highest campus level, so ask about the route from your chosen room if stairs or gradients matter. Plan to reach Thong Sala before the course begins rather than treating the first teaching morning as a travel day.

Phuket and Koh Yao Noi: the Andaman choices

Island Yoga

Yoga, Tai Chi and island free time. Budget; private AC choices available · 3, 5 or 7-day bundles; confirm nights

Island Yoga on Koh Yao Noi combines morning yoga and meditation, sunrise Tai Chi and slower afternoon practice. The official booking system offers three-, five- and seven-day bundles, so clarify the exact nights in your confirmation. Breakfast and a Thai massage are included; leave room in the budget for lunch and dinner unless a different board basis is expressly agreed.

Private fan-cooled rooms, air-conditioned accommodation and dorms offer different spending and privacy levels. Private categories list their own bathrooms, while dormitories use shared facilities. The pool and time between classes suit a yoga holiday with room to pause, but the beach is tidal and public-area Wi-Fi should not be read as dependable connectivity in every bedroom. Reach the island by boat from Phuket or Krabi and continue by local transport. Seasonal retreat closures are published, and the provider’s boat information is not fully consistent, so establish the actual sailing and pickup for your dates. Check boarding and bungalow access if steps or uneven surfaces are a concern.

CC’s Hideaway

Yoga with an active Phuket holiday. Mid-range · 4 days / 3 nights minimum

CC’s Hideaway is a mid-range hotel-based choice when you want yoga and activities in the same trip. Its current Yoga Holiday Retreat accepts flexible dates from four days and three nights. Each full day includes two classes, three meals, a juice or smoothie and an activity choice. Read arrival and departure days separately, rather than expecting a full day’s allocation on each travel day.

Return airport transfers, programme transport and a beach shuttle are included in this package. Classes use the rooftop or nearby beaches, while the pool and excursions broaden the stay beyond the timetable. The hotel offers air-conditioned rooms and describes en-suite accommodation, but its hillside position above Kata is an important distinction: the beach requires the shuttle or a separate journey. Ask how your selected bedroom connects to rooftop practice and dining if access matters. Some longer excursions are extra or need a longer booking. Compare the actual Yoga Holiday terms, because the hotel’s other wellness packages have different inclusions and are not interchangeable.

Mangosteen Ayurveda & Wellness Resort

Private villa stay with twice-daily practice. Luxury · Pure Yoga minimum 3 nights; date-specific quote

Mangosteen’s Pure Yoga combines two daily hour-long sessions with breakfast, lunch, dinner and a massage allowance. It is separate from the resort’s Ayurveda programmes and ordinary villa bookings. The yoga offer has a three-night minimum, but its displayed specific promotion covers 2027 dates; obtain a quotation for the dates you actually want. Crucially, the advertised programme amount excludes the villa, so it cannot be treated as the total holiday price.

Private air-conditioned villas have terraces and their own shower facilities. An open sala and indoor practice room sit alongside a saltwater pool, fitness room and spa. The hillside above Rawai and Nai Harn gives a different stay from a beachfront resort, although a beach shuttle is offered. Room position, slopes and steps deserve attention for anyone with mobility needs. Confirm the airport transfer in writing, because inclusions depend on the booking and length of stay. Also check the age policy if that matters to your choice: the resort’s adults-only wording permits guests aged twelve and above, rather than meaning eighteen-plus.

Amatara Welleisure Resort

Private instruction within a resort programme. Luxury · 3, 5, 7, 10 or 14 nights

Amatara’s Yoga Retreat packages offer three-, five-, seven-, ten- or fourteen-night stays with accommodation, full board and return airport transfers. The private-teaching allocation changes by tier: the shortest programme has two fifty-minute private yoga sessions, rather than one every day. Group movement classes and a specified programme of breathing, meditation or philosophy and spa elements complete the schedule. Request the actual session list when comparing lengths.

Suites, pavilions and pool villas make this a luxury resort option on Cape Panwa. Air conditioning and private balconies are listed; the Pavilion Suite has its own bathroom, while a pool villa adds a private pool. Choose the precise room and ask about routes to practice, dining and spa facilities if mobility is a concern. Full board need not mean choosing a restrictive set diet: settle meal preferences and treatment choices at booking. Wellness-retreat participants must be sixteen or older, although the wider resort welcomes families. It suits travellers seeking personal sessions and resort comfort rather than a wholly shared retreat-house routine.

What your yoga retreat package actually includes

Compare the complete stay, not the first figure on a programme page. Kamalaya and Mangosteen separate programme and accommodation charges, while One Yoga adds the room to its course booking. The Sanctuary’s programme-day options do not automatically supply the corresponding nights. Ask for one written total covering the precise dates, occupancy, room, meals, activities, transfers and taxes relevant to your booking.

Meals deserve the same attention as classes. Three vegan buffet meals at Wonderland give a different daily routine from Vikasa’s brunch and dinner or Island Yoga’s breakfast-only bundle. One Yoga includes meals on teaching days rather than throughout the whole week. If you need particular dietary arrangements, establish what the kitchen can provide and which meals you will buy elsewhere. The word vegetarian alone does not answer an allergy question.

For an affordable yoga retreat, a shared room can make the budget manageable, but compare the bathroom, fan or air conditioning, storage and transfer arrangements as well. For a luxury yoga stay, check the number of private sessions and treatments rather than assuming they are unlimited. A resort programme and a communal retreat house can both suit a first trip; they create different levels of privacy, contact and daily independence.

Choose the programme before the yoga style

Start with how much structure you want. A fixed group departure, such as Suan Sati’s winter retreat, gives everyone a shared beginning and end. Flexible stays at places such as Vikasa or True Nature let you build practice around your travel dates. One Yoga’s Sadhana has a weekly teaching rhythm, while Kamalaya centres the booking on individual sessions. These are more useful differences than a long menu of styles alone.

If you are new to yoga, ask which classes are appropriate, whether teachers offer alternatives and how much independent practice is expected. If you already practise regularly, request a sample week and the balance between physical classes, breathwork, meditation and discussion. Check whether Hatha yoga, Vinyasa, restorative work or another advertised style actually appears during your dates. Several centres also run yoga teacher training courses; those are separate commitments, not interchangeable versions of a holiday retreat.

Keep your purpose clear when a wellness retreat offers fasting, clinical services or a long treatment menu. A yoga holiday does not require you to add those services. Confirm which elements are optional and choose a daily schedule you are comfortable following, including time for meals, rest and any excursions you want.

Plan the journey, season and entry requirements

Build the journey backwards from the retreat’s check-in time. Samui and Phuket stays can continue from the airport by road; Koh Phangan and Koh Yao Noi add a boat connection. Check the current operator timetable and the provider’s final pickup instructions before buying a close connection. An overnight stop can be a sensible part of the plan when flights arrive late, a group retreat has a fixed start, or a remote bay transfer depends on daylight and conditions.

There is no single weather calendar for every retreat here. The FCDO’s Thailand guidance distinguishes the general rainy season from Koh Samui and the south-east, and warns that weather is increasingly unpredictable. Rough seas and heavy rain can disrupt transport. In the north, check current air quality as well as the forecast: official health guidance notes seasonal smoke haze affecting Chiang Mai. Do not assume a countryside address removes that regional issue.

For travellers using a full British citizen passport, GOV.UK entry guidance, checked on 6 November 2026, states that tourism visa-exempt stays are up to 30 days from 15 September 2026. It also requires a Thailand Digital Arrival Card within the three days before arrival. Check the current rules for your passport and purpose of travel before departure; a provider’s old visa FAQ is not a reliable substitute.

Optional essentials for a Thailand yoga holiday

Check the venue’s equipment list before adding kit to your bag. Many programmes here provide mats and props; a personal travel mat is optional. A refillable bottle is useful where the retreat supplies drinking water. Choose what fits your room, timetable and luggage allowance.

Questions to settle before you book

Ask for the exact room category and bathroom arrangement, not just whether accommodation is included. A private bedroom may still use a shared bathroom; a tent, fan-cooled hut and air-conditioned suite offer very different nights. If you are travelling alone, check whether a shared room is mixed-gender and how room allocation works. For a couple, confirm the actual bed configuration rather than assuming every two-bed room contains standard single beds.

Describe any access requirement in practical terms. Request the route from drop-off to reception, bedroom, bathroom, dining and shala, including stairs, gradients and uneven surfaces. Vikasa’s stairs, One Yoga’s upper shala and The Sanctuary’s possible beach arrival show why a general resort description is insufficient. Where a provider has not published a clear specification, obtain one before paying a non-refundable deposit.

Finally, confirm the booked nights, the first and last included meals, transfer coverage, cancellation terms and what happens if transport is delayed. Three or four nights can introduce a flexible centre, but a weekly course or a fixed five-night group needs its full schedule. The best yoga retreat for your trip is the one whose actual daily routine, room and journey fit the time you have.
