Description of the Retreat

Whether you’re someone looking to experience circus for the first time, or a professional looking to develop an act and increase skill level, our Caribbean retreat could be perfect for you! We ease into every morning with a refreshing yoga session and spend the rest of the day flying through the air and learning to handstand whilst enjoying the spectacular scenery and catching some sun. Finish with a cocktail and delicious dinner all in our beautiful beachside location within the sustainable eco-hotel ‘Extreme Hotel’. Circus is a wonderful way to improve fitness, flexibility and creativity so why not try it out whilst exploring the Caribbean.

Teacher/Teachings

Lauren Jamieson: Lauren is a Scottish aerialist and acrobat based in Glasgow. She was a gymnast as a child and whilst studying Chemistry at university, completing both a BSc(Hons) and PhD, she fell in love with trampolining and circus. From age 17-24 she had a very successful trampoline career, competing at national and international level and winning a number of medals and titles. Lauren discovered her passion for circus while working at French Woods Festival of the Performing Arts (New York) in 2009. Back in Scotland Lauren worked for Spinal Chord for 9 years teaching and performing, including performances at the National Museum of Scotland, O2 Academy, O2 ABC and The Gleneagles Hotel. She has also worked with Paper Doll Militia on their aerial theatre piece Warped, and is currently performing in the show Tarot by Feathers of Daedalus Circus. Lauren teaches regularly for Aerial Edge and performs and delivers workshops throughout the UK. She has experience in almost all circus disciplines but specialises in aerial straps, corde lisse, swinging trapeze (solo and duo) and acrobalance.

Joanna Vymeris: Joanna was a sports acrobatics gymnast competing nationally and internationally before transitioning to the more creative less competitive world of circus. She trained at the National Centre for Circus Arts as a teenager performing flying-trapeze and acrobatics. Joanna had the opportunity to work with Ockhams Razor and Jasmin Vardimon during this time. Joanna then studied Art History at Cambridge University where she became immersed in the theatre world and directed a sell out circus adaptation of Alice in Wonderland which then ran successfully at Gilded Balloon in the Edinburgh Fringe 2016. Inspired, Joanna founded her own company, The Feathers of Daedalus Circus, which strives for multi-disciplinary collaborations and surreal circus storytelling. Joanna has produced and directed many shows since (Coppelia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mythologue, Tarot, Sky in the Pie, Brink), working with over 100 performers in the UK and Brazil and performing to over 15,000 people. Joanna completed the professional circus training course GFORC at Circocan in Brazil and the professional intensives at Circus Warehouse in New York City. Joanna performs Cyr wheel, Chinese pole, partner acrobatics and aerial silks and hoop.
