Description of the Retreat

Kura Kura Yoga Retreat Bali is situated along a small river, a few steps away from the sea. It was originally built as a family house and in a way it still is. The family house was our starting place to build.

The original rooms are old Java style houses and the new rooms are added in the same style. All rooms have an elegant simplicity with modern basic comforts that we are used to in the Western World. Each room is decorated with love and care.

The heart of Kura Kura is the yoga shala or community space next to the small pool. Feel free to dip in whenever you like. Most rooms are built around the pool. Rooms are clean and fresh as the sea breeze, but protected and safe as the shield of a Kura Kura (Turtle).

Each room is equipped with an ensuite bathroom with shower (warm/cold water) and Western toilet, comfortable beds covered with fine mosquito nets, a fan and veranda. Each room can be set up with two single or one double bed.

Being at Kura Kura means living close to nature with the rhythms of the sea and the music of birds singing in the coconut trees. You can hear the gamelan and mantras of the temple ceremonies near by.

Coming at Kura Kura means moving away from the pressure of modern distractions.

After leaving Kura Kura you have, like our guests say: “an unforgettable experience to take with you for the rest of your life.”

Kura Kura is an intimate place to relax, enjoy, share or learn. Great for hosting your own meditation or yoga retreat or experiencing yoga during one of our own retreats.

When traveling alone you can meet people and feel at home. Remember, most of our guest are singles. There’s no need to feel lonely, except as you want to be alone of course.

Teacher/Teachings

Cher Joy Jones

A life full of wild adventures and many injuries lead Cher to the physical practice of Yoga in 2007. After many doctors and healers and therapists tried to "fix" her spine, knees, and shoulders... the practice of yoga quickly became a self-healing path which lead her to an intimate connection with her body, allowing freedom from physical pain, and opened her mind to understand the interconnectedness of everything and the ever-present bliss inside. After her first year of private one-to-one classes on Maui with Ted Surman, student of Desikichar, she was moved to dedicate her life to continuous study and sharing of this ancient tradition. Cher spent the last few years traveling, studying, and teaching Yoga in Hawaii, India, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Peru, Guatemala, and Mexico. After 10 years of dedication to studying and sharing the teachings of Yoga around the globe, she felt a strong need to find a place to ground and be still while diving deeper into her purpose, continuing to study and share, and create space for others to come to and experience the magic of "BEing". That's when she found Kura Kura. Upon arriving at Kura Kura Cher had an instant feeling that she had arrived in the right place at the right time. Soon after, she met Geri and a partnership/ new adventure of life began...

Geri Jones

Being a student of Vedanta Philosophy, Geri gave up the world of Stone to pursue something closer to her heart. She had travelled to quarries around the globe sourcing stone for commercial and domestic projects both in Indonesia and Australia; Exciting as this was it left her empty. Her search to find meaning led her to Bali where a life of teaching Yoga was more in keeping with her nature.

Geri is no stranger to Kura Kura as she was fortunate to work here for several years, forming a close bond with the staff and the place. When the takeover of Kura Kura was offered to her, she was both elated and torn. Her growing family commitments in Australia meant she had to find a partner to make Kura Kura work.
The universe answered her call when she met Cher, forming an instant connection; a partnership soon followed.
Each bringing their own particular brand of expertise to the mix, both share the vision of keeping KK in the tradition of its founder, Marlinda Van der Hoff... Welcoming people from all paths of life into this Oasis and offering a chance to disconnect from busy life; to recharge and connect through the practice of Yoga.
