Description of the Retreat

Kaliyoga was founded by yoga teachers Jonji & Rosie Miles in 2002. Our sensitive staff provide a caring environment in which guests feel nurtured and at ease and our team of world-class therapists provide opportunities for deep healing. We are proud to present a uniquely wholistic experience that upholds high values at a realistic price. A week at Kaliyoga includes yoga classes, guided meditation, delicious vegetarian cuisine, comfortable accommodation and use of the grounds and facilities. We guarantee a very warm welcome to each and every one of our international guests.

Teacher/Teachings

The purpose of yoga asana practice is to release tension completely, whilst still making the necessary muscular effort to maintain flow, posture and alignment. By linking body, mind & breath in a mindful, smooth sequence of postures, we experience intimacy with ourselves and as a consequence we begin to experience greater intimacy with those around us, in a completely natural way. A regular yoga practice can bring many rich rewards including the elimination of anxiety, doubt and depression.
The Dynamic Yoga Method

The Dynamic yoga method is concerned with how we do our yoga rather than what shapes we make - how we relate to whats going on inside ourselves, rather than perfecting it’s external form. We teach you to experience yoga not just as exercise/stretching, but as meditation-on-the-move. This is a method of yoga, not a 'style', the seeds of which will help you to practice any other kind of yoga. The method will also give you support in daily life. Practising yoga with the Dynamic Yoga Method creates a special quality and depth of awareness that can recalibrate the habitual ways we use our body and mind, triggering a deeper intelligence that helps us to live with more integrity and in-tuition.

The dynamic yoga method works inwards through the body, from the outside in.
By broadening, lengthening, grounding and softening wherever we can, we learn to synchronise our movements on the natural breath, creating a steady, lively foundation from which inner surrender and openness is cultivated. This is what the yoga postures are designed to do.

Developing the quality and breadth of awareness is the key to an inner-enquiry that can reveal tensions or disassociations that we were not yet aware of and that we are constantly creating due to pernicious habits. In dynamic yoga we seek to cultivate presence within each subtle movement. Unlike habit, presence is always fresh, it never hides and it’s deep wisdom undermines any unskilful patterns of behaviour, leading to personal freedom.

The repetition of a sequence of postures has various functions: (1) it prints the sequence into our memory so that it can be easily adopted as a self-practice; (2) it forms a tangible framework that makes the subtle nature of Awareness more tangible; (3) the rhythm of your movements synchronising with your natural breath becomes a moving meditation that soothes the wandering mind and dissolves tension in the core of your nervous system.

How deeply you are able to dive into this moving meditation does not depend on the variety of postures : it depends on developing the ability to focus with sensitive, honest, open and non-judgemental awareness on your inner experience. Many "advanced" students are able to twist themselves into all sorts of wonderful impressive shapes, but they will be more nourished by a simple sequence of slow, repetitive, mindful vinyasa, thus experiencing a new depth of awareness and its meditive consequences. The desire for more variety really comes from the seeking mind, but the dynamic yoga method quickly reveals that variety is not nearly as exciting as the juicy, sharp clarity and energy that come from experiencing the inner presence of your real self

Beginners are always welcome and experienced yogis will be able to connect more deeply to their awareness of inner stillness within movement.

Number of classes: 1 or 2 per day, depending on the program.
My partner/ friend wants to come but may not want to do yoga, is that ok? Yes, your friend is welcome to attend and not do the yoga classes, though you should inform them that the focus of the retreat is primarily yoga & relaxation.
Is there fresh air in the yoga studio? Yes, the studio has large sliding doors.
Are there bugs or flies in the yoga studio? The studio is bug-proof.
FOOD

Do you cater for special diets? We can cater for vegans and coeliacs.
Do you cater for allergies? Please use the booking form to advise us of any ingredients that would cause you to have a serious allergic reaction. There's not much we can do about olive pollen, as we are located in an olive growing area - the main pollen period is from April to June. If that is an issue for you, we recommend you consult your homeopath for a remedy before you arrive.
Will I get enough protein? - Yes, our cuisine contains a balanced amount of dietary protein in vegetables, grains, seeds, legumes, nuts, avocados and some cheese (feta, mozzarella, goat's).
Is there any meat? - 100% vegetarian menu. No meat.
Is there any alcohol? - No. Kaliyoga is alcohol-free. We respectfully ask you not to bring or consume alcohol on the premises. There are bars and restaurants in the local town that serve alcohol.
