A travel yoga mat earns its place in your luggage by making practice easier while you are away. That might mean a thin surface over a retreat’s supplied mat, a small folded bundle for a weekend bag, or a lighter roll carried to class.

The best travel yoga mat for you depends on the floor beneath it, the padding you enjoy and the space you can spare. Our UK shortlist brings together six Amazon.co.uk listings with established customer feedback, including five folding options and one mat that must stay rolled.

Where to start

For a compact rubber option, compare the JadeYoga Voyager with the longer Yogamatters Eco Travel. Prefer a pre-creased folding design? Look at Gaiam and PROIRON. The Liforme Travel offers a wider surface, but needs room for a roll.

How we chose these travel yoga mats

We checked the selected Amazon UK listings, aggregate ratings and available customer-review samples on 24 October 2026, then compared dimensions, materials, packing instructions and care with brand information where available. We favoured identifiable travel models with substantial feedback and a clear reason to consider them.

Review summaries include both praise and practical drawbacks. Ratings can combine colours, sizes and countries; they are not a count of UK written reviews. Some review samples are several years old, so they help describe owners’ experiences rather than prove how a current batch will perform. We have not personally tested these mats.

Foldable natural rubber
Purple Manduka eKO SuperLite Acai travel yoga mat partly unrolled

Product photograph: Manduka via Amazon.co.uk.

Manduka eKO Superlite

  • 180 × 61cm
  • 1.5mm
  • Approx. 1kg

The eKO Superlite is a thin, foldable natural-rubber mat with a textured surface. Its 180cm length gives you a little more room than the 173cm Jade and Gaiam options without moving to a wider mat.

Consider it as a personal layer over a supplied studio mat, or for travel when you already enjoy a firm surface. The 1.5mm thickness offers little cushioning on a hard floor.

Customer feedback: UK buyers praise its grip and packability, often using it over another mat. They also mention minimal padding, an initial rubber smell and dust sticking to the surface. One found it harder to fold than expected.

Before you choose: The linked colour is Acai. Amazon lists both 907g and 2.2lb, while the current EU brand page gives about 1kg. Fold for journeys and store rolled. The closed-cell surface can feel slick with sweat; this is not a guaranteed hot-yoga solution.

Compact rubber travel layer
Purple Jade Voyager travel yoga mat partly unrolled

Product photograph: JadeYoga via Amazon.co.uk.

JadeYoga Voyager

  • 173 × 61cm
  • 1.6mm
  • Approx. 0.7kg listed

The Voyager is a compact natural-rubber option with a 1.6mm profile. It can be folded for a journey and works particularly well as a shortlist candidate when bag space matters more than cushioning.

Check the 173cm length against the mat you use at home. A longer mat can be more practical if you regularly find your head or feet reaching beyond the ends.

Customer feedback: UK reviews praise the small packed size and grip. A tall buyer found the length limiting; another reports bunching when landing on it. The sticky surface can also collect hair.

Before you choose: The selected listing is Purple. It gives about 0.68–0.7kg; the UK brand page states a broader 0.7–0.9kg range. Store rolled after travelling. Jade’s UK guidance advises against intensive dynamic Ashtanga and outdoor/direct-sun use.

Pre-creased PVC design
Blue Sundial Gaiam Foldable yoga mat partly unrolled with its fold lines visible

Product photograph: Gaiam via Amazon.co.uk.

Gaiam Foldable Yoga Mat

  • 173 × 61cm
  • 2mm
  • Approx. 25 × 30cm folded

Gaiam’s folding mat uses a creased PVC construction rather than a sheet of natural rubber. It folds to a rectangle of roughly 25 × 30cm, giving you a useful starting point when measuring a backpack or suitcase.

It is a material alternative to the rubber mats here, with a slightly thicker 2mm profile. Gaiam identifies the model as latex-free; compare the selected product details if that material distinction matters to you.

Customer feedback: UK buyers like the convenient folding format and report that it lies flat. Grip feedback is mixed: some praise it, while a 2026 reviewer found their hands slipping in downward dog. Several mention the limited padding.

Before you choose: Keep Blue Sundial, model 05-62214, selected. Amazon lists 907g/2lb, while Gaiam’s current page gives 3lb, so no single weight is assumed here. Check the selected option before relying on a tight luggage limit.

An ultra-thin, longer option
Ocean Green Yogamatters Eco Travel yoga mat folded into a rectangular shape

Product photograph: Yogamatters via Amazon.co.uk.

Yogamatters Eco Travel Yoga Mat

  • 183 × 61cm
  • 1mm
  • Approx. 0.7–0.75kg

At 183cm long and just 1mm thick, the Eco Travel gives you a longer natural-rubber surface while keeping the mat very thin. Compare it with the shorter Jade if you want a personal layer to pack inside your bag.

That 1mm profile is the thinnest in this shortlist. Choose it for portability and a close-to-floor feel, rather than expecting it to provide a soft base for floor work.

Customer feedback: UK owners often praise the folding format and grip. Experiences of the texture differ: one buyer found it rough on their palms, while another reported rucking on carpet. Its 101-rating base is smaller than the other shortlisted listings.

Before you choose: The link selects one Ocean Green mat, model MATRAV-OG. Brand and listing weights vary between about 700g and 750g. Roll it only when fully dry, keep it out of direct sunlight and follow the natural-rubber care instructions.

A thicker folding option
PROIRON turquoise leaf-pattern 4mm yoga mat folded into a square, with smaller carry-bag and practice images

Manufacturer image: PROIRON via Amazon.co.uk.

PROIRON Foldable Travel Yoga Mat

  • 183 × 61cm
  • 4mm selected
  • 1.1kg listed

The selected PROIRON is 4mm thick, making it an alternative for readers who prefer a thicker mat but still want a folding format. It measures 183 × 61cm and comes with a storage bag.

The listing gives a folded size of 30.5 × 26.5 × 6cm and a 1.1kg mat weight. That is a useful bundle to measure against your luggage, with appreciably more depth than the ultra-thin options.

Customer feedback: UK buyers praise the convenient packing and softer feel. Others report slipping or more bulk than expected; a September 2026 reviewer found it a little flimsy. Compare the folded depth with the space in your bag.

Before you choose: Keep the turquoise leaf-pattern 4mm option selected; the page also mentions 6mm versions. Its title says TPE while the material table says PVC. Confirm the composition before buying if that distinction matters to you.

A wider mat to carry rolled
Grey Liforme Travel yoga mat with its alignment markings visible

Product photograph: Liforme via Amazon.co.uk.

Liforme Travel Yoga Mat

  • 180 × 66cm
  • 2mm
  • Approx. 1.6kg

Liforme’s Travel mat offers a 66cm-wide surface with alignment markings, a natural-rubber base and polyurethane top. It includes a travel bag, making it worth comparing if you prefer carrying a roll to folding a mat inside your suitcase.

At around 1.6kg it is the heaviest mat in this shortlist, and its 2mm profile is still thin. The markings provide visual reference points; they do not replace teaching or establish the right position for every body.

Customer feedback: UK buyers praise grip, including with sweaty hands, the markings and the bag. A four-star reviewer found the surface marked easily and the thin padding limiting on a hard floor. Another buyer had expected a thicker mat.

Before you choose: The link selects Grey Travel, not the thicker regular mat. Current brand guidance says do not fold. The specification table and brand give 66cm width; one Amazon bullet gives 65cm. Allow room for the roll and carrier.

Choose with confidence

A travel mat that fits your trip

Start with the mat at your destination

Before buying anything, ask your retreat or studio whether mats are provided, what condition they are in and whether you may place your own travel mat on top. A thin personal layer can make sense when there is already a cushioned mat beneath it. If you will practise directly on a hard floor, think carefully about how much padding you usually enjoy.

Balance packed size with comfort

A 1–2mm travel mat saves thickness in your bag, but it will feel different from a thicker everyday mat. Thickness alone does not describe softness: the material, density and floor beneath it also matter. If you prefer generous cushioning for floor work, the smallest possible bundle may be the wrong priority. Compare the measurements with the mat you already know.

Check your whole luggage allowance

Add the mat’s listed weight to your packed bag, including its carrier if you will use one. Then check the size and weight limits attached to your actual airline booking. If you plan to carry a rolled mat separately, check how that item is treated rather than assuming it is included. For a train journey or a walking transfer, consider whether it will be comfortable to carry alongside your other luggage.

Separate folding for travel from storage

Choose a mat expressly described by its maker as foldable if it needs to go inside a suitcase. “Lightweight” does not establish that it folds neatly. Folding instructions can also differ from storage instructions: Manduka allows its eKO SuperLite to fold for transport, but recommends rolled storage where possible and notes that repeated folding can leave marks.

Match the surface to your practice

Read grip descriptions in context. A surface that feels secure with dry hands may behave differently when wet. For example, Manduka says the eKO SuperLite’s closed-cell surface can feel slick with perspiration. Look for guidance for the exact model and consider any towel the manufacturer recommends; “non-slip” in a listing title is not a promise for every practice.

Read the material and care details together

Check the full material specification, especially if a particular material matters to you. Natural rubber does not automatically mean latex-free: Manduka describes the eKO SuperLite as 99% latex-free and says it is not recommended for people with latex sensitivities. JadeYoga and Yogamatters also advise readers with latex or rubber allergies to avoid their natural-rubber travel mats. For cleaning, follow the selected model’s instructions rather than borrowing a recipe from another mat. Leave time for it to dry before packing it against clothes.

Travel yoga mat questions

Can a travel mat replace my everyday yoga mat?

It can, if you enjoy its surface and level of cushioning. Start by comparing length, width and thickness with your everyday mat. A very thin mat may be a useful travel companion or personal layer over a supplied mat without being your preferred choice for every session at home.

Should I choose a folded or rolled mat?

Choose around the space you have. A maker-approved folded mat may fit inside your bag; a roll can be easier to carry separately. Check the actual packed dimensions where available, and do not assume every travel mat folds. Follow its storage instructions when you return.

Can I put a travel mat over a studio mat?

Check with the studio first and choose a model intended for that use. Manduka lists layering over studio mats as an option for the eKO SuperLite. Set both mats flat and check that they stay in place before starting. A personal top layer does not replace the studio’s cleaning arrangements.

Can I wash it before travelling home?

Use the exact model’s care instructions. A washable towel-style product and a rubber mat may need very different treatment. Manduka tells eKO SuperLite owners to avoid soaking or submerging it. Plan enough drying time before departure; a last-minute clean is less useful if you must pack the mat while damp.
