Description of the Retreat

During the retreat we will do Yoga, meditate and we will get to know one of the most important scriptures of non-dual Kashmiri Shaivism : the ” Vijñāna Bhairava “.
Vijñāna Bhairava means “divine consciousness”, the Tantra script contains 112 yoga meditations. The awarness is directed to different objects: the breath, the body centers, the universe. There are also visualizations, contemplation, japa and concentration.

“The supreme consciousness is not only transcendent in nature but is also found in the
beginning and end of each perception, in-between two breaths, between two states of
consciousness, as for example between waking and dreaming, but also at the time when one
experiences extreme emotions like happiness or fear. It is for this reason that one can always
and at any moment experience that supreme state. However, the problem is that we are
always preoccupied with our thoughts (vikalpas) and thus are enveloped by the self-imposed
problems. These practices direct our attention (avadhāna) away from these problems and
enable us to experience deeper aspects of vimarśa leading to the forth state (turīya), the goal
of all yoga practices.”

The retreat is for those who want to get to know more in-depth mediation techniques from the tradition of Kashmiri Shaivism and to develop their own in-depth meditation practice.
During the afternon there is enough time to explore the beautiful surroundings of the island of Korcula, go swimming or hiking.

Facilities

The house
The classic Dalmatian stone house was built in 1903 and consists of a three-storey main building with extensions (total 230 sqm). The rooms on the ground floor are grouped around a sheltered courtyard with a lemon tree in the middle.
The house can sleep a total of 11 people.

There are the following rooms:

a single room (1st floor),
three double rooms (1st floor and ground floor),
a spacious (40sqm) quadruple room (ground floor),
two bathrooms (with toilet and shower and toilet and bath), an extra toilet with sink and an outdoor shower with sink (not visible)
a 50sqm Konoba (kitchen diner) on the ground floor with a chamber and
a 60sqm seminar room upstairs
and a gallery above the yoga room with views over the bay, where one to two people can sleep.

To the house belongs a small, somewhat wild garden about 20 meters from the house, as well as a shady courtyard and two contiguous terraces with seating directly at the house.

In the seminar room is enough space for 15 people who do yoga.

There are 15 yoga mats, 15 meditation pillows and 15 blankets.

In addition, we cooperate with landlords on site and can provide more apartments in the immediate vicinity for seminar participants.

In the house there is a washing machine, a large refrigerator and freezer, a dishwasher, two gas / electric stoves with ovens, toaster, kettle, hair dryer and a fully equipped kitchen.

The house can currently be rented from April to October by holiday guests and seminar groups, see prices / calendar .

Practical Information

Arrival to Vela Luka
Arrival via Split
The nearest airport is in Split. At the airport there is a bus that goes directly to the large ferry port in Split (journey time about 30 minutes). He is waiting in front of the airport building. The tickets can be purchased directly on the bus (30 kuna or 5 euros per person / trip). The bus trip can also be paid in euros, the ferry ticket only in kuna. There are ATMs in the airport building.

If you want to come by train, you usually travel via Munich and Zagreb. Between Zagreb and Split there is a night train with sleeping cars. From Munich it takes about 19 hours, from Berlin about 24 hours to Split.

From the port in Split then the ferry or the catamaran transfers to Vela Luka (journey time approx. 2.5 hours) - depending on the ship (costs approx. 50 kuna (6,70 Euro) per person / single crossing). All ship schedules - including those for the catamaran - can be found on the Jadrolinija website. In 2018, the following plans will apply from Split: catamaran + ferry.

An alternative can also be the catamaran connection with Krilo from Split to Korcula town (about 2.5 hours). Then you have to take the bus to Vela Luka (about 50 minutes).

From the ferry dock / bus station you can walk to the yoga house.

Arrival via Dubrovnik

In the season there is a ferry and catamaran connection to Korčula town. The crossing from Dubrovnik to Korčula city takes 1 hour and 50 minutes. To the timetable .
From Korčula city there are bus connections directly to Vela Luka (journey time approx. 50 minutes). To the timetable .
Location of the cottage

The house is located about 200 meters from the harbor. There are cafes, restaurants, small supermarkets and a bakery.

The best swimming spots in Vela Luka are on the headland opposite. There is a small boat during the bathing season that translates tourists from the harbor side of the house to the other side. On foot, the bathing areas can be reached in about 30 minutes.

The road above the house leads directly to various hiking trails and paved cycling routes. And also for swimming, there is a short hike to Stiniva Bay on the north side of the island. You can reach it after a 50-minute hike - past olive trees, pines and grape vines.
