Description of the Retreat

The Kairos Centre is a retreat and conference centre and is available for day visits and overnight stays.

The centre is an urban oasis in south-west London situated within acres of landscaped gardens and overlooking the historic Richmond Park.

Our tranquil setting of peaceful, secluded gardens provides place to pray, space to think and time to meet.

We offer a programme of organised retreats and events along with the opportunities for spiritual direction and personal quiet days.

We wish to warmly invite everyone to share times of prayer and reflection with us. Kairos is keen to be a resource for the local community where, together, we can respond to the Lord’s invitation to “come and rest a while.

    Overall Experience

After using the venue for a yearly event for over 19yrs, the staff and operational manager have treated us with intimidation and hostility during our last event in Nov.

We experienced insult and we were indirectly accused of stealing to the extend that we had staff members watching us while we had our dinner.

We agreed to a meeting called by the centre to review our last event, take our feedback and listen to the concerns we had in order to improve the service we will get as we had secured our booking for next year. It was shocking as the team’s response was to say all our future booking is now terminated. We find this response very oppressive and disrespectful..

The service we received was highly immoral an unprofessional for a Christian organisation. The Christians teachings of love, respect and care does not exist in this organisation. I will not recommend Kairo Centre to you for an event.

Practical Information

Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius
From 01 February to 5th March 2018 we will offer the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius as a 30 day retreat. The cost for this retreat is £1,920 in an en-suite room and a full board basis.

Preached Retreats
These retreats are held in silence. There are two conferences daily, usually at 10:00 and 17:00. There is a celebration of the Eucharist and a half hour of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament daily and opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation.

Individually Guided Retreats
We do not have a formal programme of individually guided retreats (IGR), however you would be very welcome to come during any of the retreat times on our programme and have an IGR. These retreats are held in silence. There are no conferences; however, there is an opportunity to meet with your retreat guide daily. There is a celebration of the Eucharist, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is available daily and opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation.

Contemplative Retreat
This retreat will be held in complete silence, there is no music during meals or at mass. Participants are discouraged from reading during the retreat and guided to extended times of mindfulness. There is one conference daily, usually at 10:00 and three periods of silent mediation. There is a daily celebration of the Eucharist.

Triduum Retreats
Triduum retreats are held before Christmas and Easter. A triduum is a three-day period of prayer, usually in preparation for an important feast or in celebration of that feast. Triduums recall the three days that Christ spent in the tomb, from Good Friday until Easter Sunday.

These retreats are held in silence. There are two conferences daily, usually at 10:00 and 17:00. There is a celebration of the Eucharist and a half hour of Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament daily and opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation.

Elemental Spirituality Retreat
Through silence, image, word, music and art, this retreat offers the opportunity to work imaginatively with the four elements (Earth, Air, Fire and Water), to play with them and pray through them, and to further the inner conversation faith opens up in our hearts and minds. Each talk begins with a poem by R. S. Thomas to help focus attention more deeply on the unfolding themes. The opportunity to explore through painting and clay-sculpting will be present throughout the retreat in the art room for those who want to explore beyond words.
