Description of the Retreat

6-8 September 2024, 3 days and 2 nights with the option to stay a 3rd night for free!

This countryside Pilates retreat is hosted by Sophie Compton Carr and Brenda Nassali-Liston, both qualified through the Body Control Pilates Association.  The bonus of having two teachers is that we can then teach anyone from Beginner to Advanced level, adjusting the movements depending on your abilities.

We’ll be staying at Fair Oak Farm in Mayfield, Kent, with its unique range of historic and stylish group accommodation, including barns, tree lodges & shepherd’s huts.  It is set in stunning countryside, in a protected area of outstanding natural beauty, yet only 1.5 hours from London.

A selection of Pilates classes will be held in a converted barn just across the gorgeous gardens.  In your downtime you can take country walks, play a fun game of table tennis, indulge in an infra-red sauna, lounge in the cinema barn where you can just relax and watch a film with friends, have a drink in one of the local pubs (just 2 miles away), or simply enjoy a quiet read in your luxury accommodation.

We will also have an osteopath on site called Giulia Volpe, who can provide osteopathy; remedial massage; scar release; western acupuncture, IASTM & dry cupping, in a fully kitted out treatment room (at an additional fee).

What would we like you to ‘take away’ from this weekend?

Primarily we would like you to experience a true break from your daily life. It should be a time when you can focus on yourself, with no interruptions. This doesn’t mean we’re going to ask you to give up your mobiles at the front door (!), but we’d like you to reflect on whether a weekend away from your phone/work/kids might be revitalising. Give yourself permission to do whatever makes you feel relaxed.

We have sorely missed out making new connections during the pandemic years, so we hope that this weekend might provide an opportunity to chat with like-minded companions, or at least find some camaraderie during the planned activities shown in the itinerary above.

This weekend will be all about listening to yourself and realising what your mind and body needs.

Teacher/Teachings

Sophie Compton Carr is the owner of both www.pilatestar.com and www.sophiespilates.com

Like many, Sophie got into Pilates due to chronic hip and back pain, possibly caused by the Three Peak Challenge which she did when she turned 40yrs.  Following the usual GP appointments, specialists, physios, MRI scan, injections, it was Pilates that saved the day, and now she's a passionate advocate of 'movement'.  Sophie has an additional certification as a Back4Good® practitioner, focusing on low back pain, and for Bone Health, enabling her to teach those with osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

Brenda Nassali-Liston will be also part-hosting the weekend with Sophie, and she is the owner of Inform Pilates, https://www.informpilates.co.uk/meet-the-owner.

Brenda started doing Pilates at dance college. It helped her heal from dance injuries during her dance degree and as a professional dancer.  Brenda has an additional certification from the Art of Motion Academy to teach Slings Myofascial Training®, and loves to share her passion for foot health and fascia-focussed movement.

Both are certified Pilates Instructors, trained by Body Control Pilates Association.

Check out both Sophie and Brenda on their websites.

Giulia Volpe from yanawellness.co.uk will also be on site to provide osteopathy; remedial massage; scar release; western acupuncture, IASTM & dry cupping, at an additional fee
